Walking, Bicycling, and the City Budget > Budget hearings
Find a budget hearing convenient to your schedule and location. Everyone who shows up will have an opportunity to speak. Simply and briefly say you think it's important to invest in bicycling and walking infrastructure. Print this page and take it with you for some suggestions on what to say.
Some specific examples of bike/ped investments
- Sidewalks and crosswalks.
- Curb cuts and audible traffic signals for the disabled.
- Bike lanes.
- Trails for both transportation and recreation.
- Maintenance of existing trails.
Reasons why investments in walking and bicycling are important, even in tough budget times:
- Bike/ped projects have a higher return on investment and create more jobs per dollar than road construction and other infrastructure spending.
- Provide transportation options and job access for people who need to get to work.
- Ensure the safety of people using bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
- Promote health and fitness of Kansas Citians to combat chronic conditions like obesity and diabetes in times of rising health care costs.
- Recreational opportunities and transportation options increase the quality of life in the City and help it compete better for economic development.
Print this page and take it with you to the budget hearing.
Also: Send a note to your City Councilmembers in support of funding. |
