Trail funding request details


Details of the trail projects being requested for funding in the 2010-2011 budget. These requests will be evaluated by PIAC, the Public Improvements Advisory Committee. PIAC is a citizens committee that advises the City Council on how to spend the half-cent sales tax for capital improvements.

1st District Project: Hodge-Smithville Trail

  • Almost 2 miles of shared-use trail (includes equestrian trail) in Hodge Park
  • PIAC funding needed for trail bridge structure (fills gap so that construction can commence)
  • Other secured funds ($100K from Rec Trails Grant secured in 2008 – $62K Clay County Parks in-kind services)
  • Priority project in the Trails KC Plan

2nd District Project – Line Creek Trail

  • Segments of the trail are currently under construction (from previous PIAC allocations)
  • Be sure to thank councilmembers and PIAC members for funding this project in the past
  • Request their continued support of the trail
  • Priority project in the Trails KC Plan

3rd District Project – Van Brunt Trail

  • Funding needed for design of 2.6 miles of shared-use trail (no pedestrian accommodations currently exist on Van Brunt)
  • Project will connect to the existing Brush Creek Trail
  • Priority project in the Trails KC Plan
  • Would be the first trail project in 3rd Council District
  • Opportunity to collaborate with 5th District as trail crosses through both districts

4th District Project - Trolley Track to Indian Creek Trail

  • Funding needed for construction of the shared-use trail (would provide trail connection from Plaza to Olathe)
  • Design underway (from this fiscal year’s PIAC allocation)
  • Be sure to thank councilmembers and PIAC members for funding the design phase
  • Request their continued support of the trail
  • Collaborative project between 4th, 5th and 6th Districts
  • Priority project in the Trails KC Plan

5th District Project - Trolley Track to Indian Creek Trail

  • Funding needed for construction of the shared-use trail (would provide trail connection from Plaza to Olathe)
  • Design underway (from this fiscal year’s PIAC allocation)
  • Be sure to thank councilmembers and PIAC members for funding the design phase
  • Request their continued support of the trail
  • Collaborative project between 4th, 5th and 6th Districts
  • Priority project in the Trails KC Plan

5th District Project - Van Brunt Trail

  • Funding needed for design of 2.6 miles of shared-use trail (no pedestrian accommodations currently exist on Van Brunt)
  • Project will connect to the existing Brush Creek Trail
  • Opportunity to collaborate with 3rd District as trail crosses through both districts
  • Priority project in the Trails KC Plan

6th District Project - Trolley Track to Indian Creek Trail

  • Funding needed for construction of the shared-use trail (would provide trail connection from Plaza to Olathe – 28  miles)
  • Design underway (from this fiscal year’s PIAC allocation)
  • Be sure to thank councilmembers and PIAC members for funding the design phase
  • Request their continued support of the trail
  • Collaborative project between 4th, 5th and 6th Districts
  • Priority project in the Trails KC Plan

6th District Project – Three Trails Corridor Trail

  • Funding needed for construction of  shared-use trail along Bannister Rd
  • Would be extension of trail that crosses over 71 Highway
  • Funds secured from National Park Service (30K)
  • Along the historic Santa Fe Trail route
  • Priority project in the Trails KC Plan
